The
mission of the Robyn's Glen Homeowner's Association (HOA)
is to help preserve the value,
beauty,
and
safety of our community.
This
mission is sometimes a difficult one to attain
operationally. Most people do want to
preserve or increase the value of their homes, but there
is often disagreement on exactly how this is done.
The Board has to make decisions that are sometimes
unpopular in the quest of keeping this mission.
The
Board has to decide among people who have
different needs and wants - for example, someone may
believe that parking a car in the street is okay, but
the person's neighbor may be annoyed because he almost
hits that car when backing up. Another
person is annoyed that they have to keep their gaslamp
on in the evening - but others want everyone to keep
gaslamps on not only for safety reasons (light) but also
to maintain the beauty and the uniformity of the
neighborhood.
Some
people are angry that those who rent homes in our
community do not do enough to maintain them. Some
are angry that there never seems to be enough money in
the budget. But they do not seem to realize that
it takes money to provide a GOOD landscaping company
(like we currently have) to maintain the front of the
property. And, even more important, people do not
realize it takes a lot of energy, effort, and cost to
collect from the few, but persistent, group of people
who do not pay their dues each year.
The
next time you are annoyed or just wondering about what
your HOA is doing, please think about the reasons the
HOA exists, and how difficult is the job of the
Board (which is comprised of non-paid volunteers).
